Principles of Good Palliative Care

Palliative care should be integrated early in the process of the disease, improves the quality of life of patients, alleviates families and can even reduce costs of health systems. These are the main messages of Professor Philip Larkin, President of the European Association for Palliative Care, and Dr Benoit Beuselinck, Oncologist at KU Leuven, invited by the EPP Working Group on Bioethics and Human Dignity to intervene at the event on Principles of Good Palliative Care, hosted by the European Parliament on 7 February.

The Use of New Genetic Technologies in Human Beings

The Committee on Social Affairs, Health and Sustainable Development of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe hosted on 24 January, a hearing about a report named “The Use of New Genetic Technologies in Human Beings”, presented by the Senator Petra de Sutter (Socialist Group, Belgium). The guest speakers were Mair Crouch, Geneticist and Academic Lawyer from the University of Glasgow, Anne Forus, representative of the Council of Europe Committee on Bioethics, and Cor Oosterwijk, Secretary General of the Patients Network for Medical Research and Health.

2016 10 25 IMG5On 25 October 2016, in the European Parliament in Strasbourg, the EPP Working Group on Bioethics & Human Dignity met to discuss on “How to Stop the Surrogacy Business”. Chaired by Mr Miroslav Mikolášik (EPP Member of the European Parliament, Slovakia), the meeting was attended by Members of the European Parliament, EU functionaries and human rights experts.

Press release | Surrogacy stopped again at the Council of Europe

There is no room for ambiguity on the practice of surrogacy. Today the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), during a plenary sitting, rejected a draft recommendation on surrogacy presented by the Belgian Senator Dr. Petra De Sutter (Socialist Group).
