11 July 2022,
FAFCE President, Vincenzo Bassi, took part to a conference at the European Parliament on the 6th of July 2022 on “The richness of the family and its relationships”, organised by the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) Policy Group on Family and Life. Hosted by MEP Margarita de La Pisa Carrión (Spain), the event stressed the key importance of family in the demographic future of Europe, and its social and economic contribution to our communities.
After recalling that family is an experience and not an ideology, FAFCE President called to recognise that “family has been in the frontline during the pandemic”, therefore to regard family policies “not as cost but rather as investment in the future of Europe.”
He then strongly pointed out consumerism and individualism as the main reasons of the fewer number of children per families. To address the problem of loneliness, he emphasised the value of solidary, on which “everything is based”. “Without solidarity, those who were alone during the pandemic suffered the most. On the contrary, family is the basic unit where we can experiment solidarity.”
“Family is fundamental contribution to general welfare. If we have children, we participate in the community. It means we need to get a recognition for that. Economic development can only be achieved if you make the family involved.”
