On Saturday, 19 November, Pope Francis created Cardinal Mario Zenari, Apostolic Nuncio to Syria. Antoine Renard, FAFCE’s President, attended the Ordinary Public Consistory and had the opportunity to meet Cardinal Zenari during the traditional courtesy visit to new cardinals, open to everyone.
Mr Renard expressed him FAFCE’s solidarity with families suffering in Syria and informed Cardinal Zenari of the statement released on 12 May 2016, on the occasion of the International Day of Families, where FAFCE asserted its “goodwill and compassion, in particular regarding the Syrian and Iraqi families affected by the asylum phenomenon”, calling the EU and Member States to work together for the resolution of this crisis, offering FAFCE’s availability to cooperate for the peace.
