Conference on the Rights of the family was hosted by the Pontifical Council for the Family together with the Italian Union of Catholic Lawyers at the Urbaniana University in Rome on 19-21 September 2013. The theme of the conference was “the rights of the family and the challenges of the contemporary world”. It was organised in connection with the 30th anniversary of the Charter of the Rights of the Family, presented by the Holy See in 1983.

Delegates from across the world gathered to reflect and discuss on family related issues such as the way the family is perceived in the media, the philosophy of the rights of the family today and sign posts for a possible response to the challenges raised for the family. FAFCE’s Secretary General Maria Hildingsson spoke on the issue of the family from the international political perspective, underlining the importance of being proactive to promote the family as a subject of rights and offer proposals on how to address the current challenges. The FAFCE organises a conference on the same topic at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg on 1st October where further proposals along these lines will be presented.
