29 April 2021,
The European Commission Vice-President Dubravka Suica (for Democracy and Demography), and Commissionner Mariya Gabriel (for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth) launched this morning the long awaited Atlas of Demography.
Produced by the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission and Eurostats, it includes a strong database, with official statistics and projections at the level of the EU-Member-States, regions and localities on topics such as:
- population trends
- change in age structure
- dependency ratio
A key tool that confirms the ageing of Europe.
Representing the EU Portuguese Presidency, Ministry of State Mariana Vieira da Silva declared: “the pandemic revealed the economic uncertainties for families” and the need to “support couples who plan to have children through the access to child care facilities and parental leave”.
Families are the solution to the demographic challenges in Europe, and the only cure to our wounded societies. FAFCE will continue to raise awareness on this topic and calls to adequately equip and support families in Europe, severely hit by the pandemic.
