Brussels, 20th March 2025
This Thursday 20th March, FAFCE was invited to the first meeting of the Demography Intergroup at the European Parliament. Around twenty MEPs from different political groups agreed that the EU should pay more attention to demographic issues.
The launching of this Intergroup was permitted thanks to the personal commitment of MEPs Romana Tomc (EPP), Vasile Dincu (S&D) and Paolo Inselvini (ECR).
During the meeting, all MEPs were able to give their opinion about the various issues affecting demography and the reasons for the current decrease in birth rates. Many talked about social and economic hardships affecting young families, but also the cultural trends about parenthood.
FAFCE was invited to join the meeting at the request of the three co-chairs. The aim of such an intergroup is not only to discuss a specific topic between MEPs, but also to allow them to interact with stakeholders from the civil society.
The MEPs were also joined by the Vice-President of the European Parliament, Mrs. Antonella Sberna (ECR).
The intergroup will meet regularly to discuss about demographic challenges.
