Dr Helmut Moll, a renowned theologian and expert in Church history, has penned a compelling new book, Selige und heilige Ehepaare (Blessed and Holy Couples). This inspiring work invites readers to reflect on the lives of saintly couples who exemplify love, faith, and commitment, offering invaluable lessons for families navigating the challenges of modern life.
In Selige und heilige Ehepaare, Dr Moll presents the stories of 80 couples from diverse historical periods and cultural backgrounds. These couples, whose marriages were marked by profound faith and mutual support, are celebrated by the Church for their holiness and dedication to family life. Through vivid storytelling and theological insights, the book underscores the importance of marriage as a vocation and a path to sanctity.
FAFCE’s Advocacy Director, Teresa Gerns, recently visited Dr Moll in Cologne to talk about the book. He explained that for a long time he accompanied married and young couples who wanted to marry in the diocese of Cologne and supervised several couples’ groups. In the course of these accompaniments, he spent years researching the various marriages from all over the world who have already been canonised or beatified or are still in the process of being so. He gave this book on blessed and holy couples to those he mentored. The book delves into examples of countless ordinary lay people who have built a holy family precisely through their faithfulness, their love for their spouse and their children.
Dr Helmut Moll, a former official of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and a professor of theology in Germany, has dedicated his career to exploring the lives of saints and martyrs. His extensive research and deep spiritual insights make this book a valuable resource for families, parishes, and anyone seeking inspiration in their faith journey.
FAFCE warmly encourages its members and all readers to explore Selige und heilige Ehepaare, and to participate in testimonies of life in holy families. The stories of these marriages are not just historical accounts—they are living testimonies of the power of love and faith to transform the world, starting with the family. It serves as a hopeful reminder for couples that they are called to holiness in everyday family life.
Dr Helmut Moll is a distinguished theologian and Church historian, renowned for his extensive work on saints and martyrs.
