Vatican City (10 March) – Our President, Vincenzo Bassi, together with our Secretary General, Nicola Speranza, spent a day full of meetings where they visited different Holy See officials whose mandate is related to FAFCE’s field of work.
FAFCE President and Secretary General met with the Secretary for the Relations with the States of the Holy See, H. E. Mgr. Paul R. Gallagher, and with Ms Fermina Alvarez, in charge of the relations with catholic-inspired NGOs. They discussed FAFCE’s actions to make the family become a central focus of European public policies. Namely, FAFCE described its cooperation with European institutions in highlighting the demographic urgency, and its proposals to stop the demographic decline with innovative family policies. They mentioned the importance of the family as the basic cell of society in relation to the event on Economy of Francis, in which FAFCE is invited to intervene in Assisi in November this year. Mgr. Gallagher already met in the past the Honorary President Antoine Renard and knows FAFCE since the beginning of his diplomatic career, when he has been Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the Council of Europe (2000-2004).
On this same day the President of FAFCE met as well with the Secretary of the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life, Fr. Alexandre Awi Mello, I. Sch., and with the Under-Secretary responsible for Family and Life, Prof. Gabriella Gambino. They discussed the current actions of FAFCE and the future ways of cooperation with the Dicastery, with a special focus on the next World Meeting of Families, which will take place in Rome in June 2021.
